Donald Pirie

Voice casting director, voice director, actor and voice actor, working across performance, direction and coaching.

I work across a wide range of voiceover and casting projects for games, animation, broadcast and audio, bringing together creative direction, performance craft and a deep understanding of how voices truly work in the studio. As a director and casting director, I help studios find the right voices and guide actors towards truthful, confident and emotionally grounded performances.

Alongside this, I coach performers at every stage of their careers to deliver clear, consistent and compelling voice work for screen, stage and audio. Whether shaping character for animation, refining performance for games, or building studio confidence for commercial and narrative work, my focus is always the same. Authentic performance, professional standards and voices that connect.

Actor & Voice Actor

Donald Pirie is one of Scotland’s most recognisable voices, heard daily across STV, BBC Radio Scotland and Channel 4. He has narrated documentaries and popular quiz shows, recorded talking books, performed a wide range of characters in computer games, and appeared in numerous national adverts. LAMDA trained, with a vast amount of TV credits and stage work from the Old Vic to the Royal Lyceum.

“I have worked with Donald on hundreds of projects over many years now, and he knocks it out the park every time. His enthusiasm for what he does shines through on every read, and he constantly delivers exactly what I’m after, the first time.  Not only that, but he is a pleasure to work with, friendly, helpful, and nothing is too much trouble. Definitely one of my first go-to options when I’m looking for a voice-over. I can’t rank him highly enough.”

Stewart Grieve

Group Audio Producer at Bauer Media

“Working with Donald is a joy. He is flexible, professional and creative. More importantly, he is talented: some vocal performers are simply audio Presenters, with one style of delivery. But Donald is a voiceover Artist. His acting background means he is versatile, adapting his delivery to give your script more emotion or clarity or authority. Oh yeah, and he’s got a nice voice. The only negative is I can’t use him for every job.”

Director & Casting

Donald is a Scottish voice director and casting director known for guiding actors towards truthful, confident and emotionally grounded performances. He works closely with studios and performers to shape authentic character work and source the right voices for games, animation and a wide range of audio projects, bringing both creative insight and practical studio experience to every session.

“The amazing thing about Donald is that he manages to care so much about getting the best performance out of his actors, but he has absolutely no ego while doing so. In the room he's supportive, professional, and creates an environment in which you feel comfortable to play behind the mic.
Truly my favourite-ever projects to work on have had Donald at the helm.”

Darren Maw

Managing Director 10to3

Donald is one of my favourite directors for many, many reasons. He’s playful, efficient, and consistently brings out strong performances in the booth - with the added bonus of keeping my Scottish accent in check when needed! His reputation speaks for itself: everyone I know loves working with him. As a casting director, he casts widely and thoughtfully, bringing in exceptional talent. What an honour it is to be considered for projects he’s involved with.
